For 100 years, Wa-Ga-Tha-Ka has been a place where families gather, memories are made, and traditions are passed down through generations. As we continue sharing the story of our history, we want to honor the meaning behind the name that started it all.
Wa-Ga-Tha-Ka, which comes from the Chippewa language of the Ojibwe Native Americans, means “Dwelling place amongst the birch trees.”
Wa-Ga-Tha-Ka is located on Wabana Lake, which also means in Ojibwe, “Lake of many bays.”
These names reflect the beauty and connection of this place - surrounded by trees, water, and the memories of all who have visited over the past century. From the first guests to the families who return year after year, Wa-Ga-Tha-Ka’s story has always been about community, nature, and creating moments that last a lifetime.
Here’s to 100 years of history, and to the many more memories still to come. 🌲🌊
