You’re looking at a mudroom. I’m looking at a lot of decisions…
Cabinet color. Wood species. Stain. Door and drawer style. Hardware finish, size and placement. Countertop material, color, edge profile and overhang. Cabinet depth. Toe kick style. Finished side panels. Crown molding. Trim profile. Wall color. Door style. Door color. Flooring. Lighting. Electrical placement.
And that’s after we get into the most important part: how my clients and their family actually need this space to function. Where do the shoes go? The coats? Backpacks? What do we want hidden? How much storage do they actually need?
Then, how does this cabinetry relate to the kitchen right beside it? How do the colors and materials flow into the rest of the house? And when you step outside, does the entire home still tell the same story?
So many tiny decisions go into one relatively small space. Now imagine making those decisions for an entire home.
That is interior design.
It’s not coming in at the end and decorating a finished house. It’s making hundreds, sometimes thousands, of decisions along the way and making sure every one of them works together. Functionally, visually and cohesively.
