It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our owner John Salis, who was called home Sunday evening.

Since 1995, John has proudly owned Heartland Resort, pouring his heart, kindness, and generosity into creating a truly special place for families to make memories, have fun, and enjoy the simple joys of camping and being together. John was an amazing man who touch countless lives and had a laugh that brightened every room.

We say goodbye with deep sorrow, but also know he’s has reached where he is “so close to wonderful it’s unbelievable”. We will forever have profound gratitude—for his generous heart, his unwavering dedication, and the beautiful place he created for so many. John’s legacy will live on. His family, friends, and the Heartland family will continue to honor him throughout the park and carry forward the spirit he created here.

Rest peacefully, John. A thank you will never be enough for all you have done on this earth.❤️

Please keep John’s family and his Heartland family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Heartland Resort Clubhouse, 1613 W. 300 N., Greenfield, IN 46140. A Celebration of Life Service immediately following the gathering at 6:00 p.m., following the service there will be a golf cart parade in the resort. Pastor Paul Galbraith will be officiating.

‼️REMINDER: although the water on bridge is not high at the moment, due to safety concerns, be sure no one near the water on the bridge. Be sure to inform and keep an eye on your children. Thank you

🌊 BREAKING NEWS: WE ARE NOT FLOODED!

The bridge may be getting a good ol’ washing, but sorry folks… no new lakefront property is available at this time. 😂🌊

And if you were hoping all this water was going to score you a insurance claim and a brand-new camper…Nice try. 😉😂

We’re monitoring everything closely, pumping water as fast as we can, and doing everything possible to keep things under control.

‼️For safety purposes please do not attempt to enter the water on bridge.

Early morning update as Tim has been monitoring all night… Due to the heavy rains up north, water has slightly begun crossing over the bridge. Although it is not deep, due to debris in the water, we asked that you do not drive through it. The back gate is unlocked and open(see red pin in map photo). No significant change on the lower campground since yesterday, things are still going well.

I know people are keeping tabs, so here’s one last update for the night. Water has not crossed the bridge yet and the guys are keeping the pumps running smoothly. Stay safe everyone 😁
