Join us for our 8th and final Uncommon Artist of the 2026 season, Boris Torres, for an intimate artist talk followed by a studio tour.

✨ UNCOMMON ARTIST TALK: BORIS TORRES ✨
Sunday, April 26 · 5–6PM
Studio at Sound View Greenport

Born in Ecuador and now based in New York, Boris Torres is a painter whose work draws deeply from cinema, memory, and lived experience. He received his MFA from Brooklyn College and BA from Parsons School of Design, and has exhibited at institutions including the Bronx Museum of Art, Tacoma Art Museum, and the Leslie-Lohman Museum. His work is held in the permanent collection of the National Museum of Ecuador and has been featured in The New York Times, Hyperallergic, and Out Magazine, as well as in film and television.

Working primarily in intimate figurative paintings on wood panel, Torres draws inspiration from 1980s European cinema, translating film stills into quiet, emotionally charged compositions. Through cropping, editing, and reimagining these scenes, his work captures fleeting moments of light, vulnerability, and human connection—where figures exist between clarity and ambiguity.

Rooted in a personal history shaped by immigration, identity, and New York’s underground creative communities, Torres’s work explores the complexities of sexuality, gender, and representation with tenderness and intensity.

This is a rare opportunity to engage directly with an artist whose work transforms cinematic memory into deeply human, painterly experience.

Kindly RSVP only if you are certain you can join us. Link in bio.
