Oakie has had a bit of time off of hunt test training and conformation as well. We've been building a new kennel and finally got moved so training is FINALLY getting back to normal!! I am so proud for him thou. He never missed a beat, handled the move like a rock star and is back training like he never missed a day. I could not be more grateful for his transformation!!

A little Oakley update! We are participating in a medical study for a dog flu vaccine with our personal dogs. Oakley is included and he got a FULL vet exam with NO incidents. He was happy and wanting to visit with the techs before and after!! What a difference because when I got him, in his paperwork there is a written statement from a tech that Oakley growled at her. Seeing him now you'd never believe that ever happened. I was reluctant to do the trial with him but my vet has worked with Chesapeakes before and was just fabulous with the situation. Another HAPPY Oakley story!

Ben and I have been on a business trip, picking up a new truck and another chessie for training. We've never been gone this long (4 days) from the kennel, so I had a friend stay at the house and take care of the dogs. Well, of course, I'm most worried about Oakie and a new caretaker. I asked if everything was going well and she said yes! And I just had to ask about "my big man" & her reaponse was MORE than I had hoped for!

LOTS happened today at the Hunt Test!! First of all Oakley did not pass BUT...he did go and socialize with other PEOPLE on his own and was very happy wagging his tail, getting petted by others and being an all around "normal" dog. He had a smile on his face and even though he did not pass, that right there was worth more than a 10 ribbons!!! We will continue into advanced training this winter and clean up some training points, now that I'm sure he will be able to handle the hunt test atmosphere and can perform away from home and around other people. HUGE STRIDES today!!

Oakie is READY for his hunt test debut!! NO mouthing the birds the past few days. My only concern is all of the people and dogs. He is amazing in public and around other dogs but we've never been in a situation like a hunt test and he get JACKED UP when he hears the duck call now and sees those birds start launching. So, we shall see. Finger and paws crossed and puppy prayers for Oakley please! He's worked SO very hard!!

Oakie picked up his first real duck today!!! He was fantastic after a little training session with it, he was good to go!!

His mouthing was not NEARLY what I thought it would be. We will see how the next few days go with it. FINGERS & PAWS crossed and some training thrown in there! !

Oakley is going to run his first UKC Hunt Test October 15 and 16 in Sumrall, Mississippi! His training buddy is Boykin Spaniel, Roux. They've become GREAT pals and I'm so happy that he's so fond of other dogs! Oakley is pretty steady but that's a work in progress at this point. LOTS of fun times ahead for Oakie and I! !
