The Blue Ridge is doing the thing. 🍁

Mid-to-late October is peak color here, this is our actual park, shot from above, no filter. Skyline Drive and the Parkway are minutes away, but honestly? The view from the picnic table holds its own.

The last two October weekends book out first. Just saying.

Two sky shows next week. Time to claim a campsite for meteor night. 🌠

The Orionids (debris from Halley's Comet, no less) peak overnight next week, Oct 21–22. The gibbous moon washes out the early hours, so the move is pre-dawn after moonset: fast, bright meteors over the ridge. Then the Hunter's Moon rises big and gold on Sunday, Oct 25, peaking just after midnight.

Coffee. Firepit. Look up.

That extra-bright "star" rising in the east isn't a star. 🪐

Saturn just hit opposition, its closest and brightest showing of the entire year, and it stays brilliant all month. Steady binoculars from your camp chair will hint at the rings. No telescope, no light pollution, no excuse.

Weekend two of five, and the campground is fully in character. 🎃👻

Skeletons on picnic tables. Cobwebs on awnings. The pumpkin patch open for business and costumes already in progress. If your rig has never been trick-or-treated, it hasn't lived.

Apple season is peaking, and we're surrounded. 🍎

Carter Mountain's festival runs every October weekend, Chiles and Henley's orchards are minutes up the road in Crozet: c***r donuts, hayrides, pick-your-own. Orchard-hop by day, campfire by night, repeat until November.

The spookiest month in Virginia camping starts NOW. 🎃

Five Halloween Weekends, back to back, starting this Friday: site decorating contests, trick-or-treating rig to rig, costume contests, the pumpkin patch, plus kettle corn and food vendors most weekends. Guests tell us all year that October here is their favorite tradition.
