Caregivers, you know your kid better than anyone else. We also know that kids can only discover some things about themselves away from home.

Coming to the decision to spend a week at summer camp is different for every camper. For some It's the bravest decision they have ever made, for others it's the easiest. For one week kids leave their screens, their routines, and the label they’ve been wearing at school all year behind. They try activities they swore they’d never do, make friends from places they’ve never heard of, and before their arrival our counselors already know their name, their likes and their dislikes.

Somewhere between the campfire songs, the cabin chats and jumping into the lake something shifts.

We can’t tell you when it happens. We just haven’t seen a summer where it didn’t 🤍

Have you ever experienced the Superman swing?

Here’s how it works - First you gear up. Harness, helmet, carabiners and ropes. Then, our certified instructor checks everything — and then checks it again.

Then your friends take hold of the rope, and pull you up among the trees. You decide how high, they’ll hold you right there.

And then comes the important part! You have to reach down and pull the release rope so that you can soar through the air.

That’s where people freeze. Some get to the top and can’t do it. Some challenge themselves to go higher than just a few feet. Some change their mind halfway through. For some, just getting the harness on is a triumph.

What we’ve never once heard is a camper come down and says they wish they hadn’t tried. Every single person who pulls that release comes back screaming and exhilarated — and the first thing out of their mouth is, “can I go again?”.

The fear is real. It’s a long way down and at some point you just have to let go and find out!

In life, a lot of us are up there right now. Held by a gracious and patient God who will not let go, but our hand is on the release rope. Are you ready to take the leap of faith?

Imagine kids running across the rec field, racing to the campfire. Your kids coming home with muddy sneakers, rosy cheeks and endless stories they can’t wait to tell you about. There’s nothing better than a beautiful fall day at camp where kids can just be kids. No screens, no distractions, no rush. Just lots of fresh air, good vibes and the anticipation of adventure, good friends and the kind of fun you can only find on the shores of Lost Lake 🍂

The campfire 🔥

We sing camp songs around it. We dance around it. We burn more marshmallows than we actually get to eat around it, and each evening our campers gather around it and share Vespers.

Campfires warm the soul, reset the nervous system, and provide a calm environment where sacred conversations can happen.

Same fire + different hearts each week finding light, connection and community in the darkness 💛

Being a Camp Counselor involves doing A LOT of random things, a lot of meaningful things, and definitely a lot of hard things. Anyone that has ever worked a season can attest that it is NOT for the faint hearted 😅

You will spend nine glorious weeks doing stuff you would probably never do anywhere else. The best part is that you will get to do it with amazing people from around the world and they will become some of your closest friends.

You spend five days living your best life with people you didn't know on Sunday, and by Friday you're standing in the parking lot not wanting to get in the car.

Shirts covered in signatures. Promising to write and actually meaning it. Somebody always crying — and it's usually a counselor 😭

That's what at camp does. It's short enough that it shouldn't matter, and long enough that it always does. Nobody prepares you for how hard Friday is🤍

Next summer will be here before you know it. We'll be ready to welcome you 🏕️

Oh to be truly seen, truly loved, truly cared for, and truly valued! 🥹

Every camper has a favorite counselor - that special someone who sees them, challenges them, cheers them on and make Grotonwood feel like home 🤗

For some, it’s that one counselor who stayed up late to listen, answer the hard questions and pray with them, for others, it's the rowdy one who cheered loudest at the talent show and was the first one on the dance floor 🕺🏻

Regardless, they always pointed you to Jesus, encouraged you to be brave, try your best and somehow knew exactly what to say!

Day Camp Premiere this past Saturday was everything we hoped it would be 🤍

Kids stuffed their own bears, took a cruise on Lost Lake, cast a line off the dock, and buzzed across the property on Segways.

For some it was their first experience of camp, others returned to reunite with staff and friends — either way, by the end of the day, you couldn't tell.

These moments are the beginning of what summer at Grotonwood looks like, and there's a lot more ahead! 🌲
