Tioga Road is ...*drumroll*... open! We are so excited to welcome visitors and staff back to the high country of Tuolumne. We recognize this highly anticipated opening will allow easier access to and from Yosemite for many visitors, and satiate desires to explore the high alpine lakes, vistas, and meadows that make this part of our park so special.
Though we are all itching to drive the pass, please make sure you are prepared and stocked up before setting off on your merry way. There is no water, food service or fuel available, and the only restrooms are vault and portable toilets.
Though the road is clear, there is a one-lane section just east of Olmstead Point, so expect delays. Deer, marmots and birds have gotten accustomed to life without visitors, so please drive to posted speed limits and keep your eyes peeled for critters on the road.
If you are venturing out on a hike, please be prepared for spring-like conditions, as snow remains in some areas as low as 8,000 feet, with deep coverage at 9,000 feet. Expect snow and water on trails, and bring a map, compass and GPS for navigation.
There will be rangers at the Tuolumne Meadows Wilderness Center and at an information tent outside of the visitor center, so be sure to give them a warm welcome back as you pass through!
