Memorial Day weekend is one of the busiest times in Yosemite. Keep your trip stress-free by planning ahead and knowing what to expect:
📅Weekends are crowded in the park, especially Saturdays. Visit popular areas, views, and trails like Glacier Point, Lower Yosemite Fall Loop, Tunnel View, the Mist Trail, and the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias during weekdays instead. Permits are required to hike Half Dome.
🌄Arrive early and stay late. Parking lots can fill up as early as 7 am, with the Curry Village lot typically filling up first. When all parking lots in Yosemite Valley are full, it may not be possible to access the eastern parts of the valley. Be flexible with your plans.
🚴♂️Park once for the day and walk, bike, or take the free shuttle in Yosemite Valley. Please park only in designated parking lots and turnouts. Bike rentals are available at the Village Store, Curry Village, and Yosemite Valley Lodge.
🚗Be prepared for long lines at entrance stations, with waits from 30 minutes to several hours. To save time, buy your digital site pass on Recreation.gov.
⏳Wait times in the park may be longer than usual for shuttles, bathrooms, visitor centers, food, and trails. Bring snacks and water, use restrooms when you find them, and pack your patience.
🌲Consider spending time in more remote parts of the park, like Tioga Road, Hetch Hetchy, and Wawona, during the busiest times of the day.
🏕️All campgrounds and lodges inside the park are full. If you are planning to stay overnight, look for places outside the park in neighboring national forests and towns.
🥾 Tioga Road wilderness permits remain on self-registration at Tuolumne Meadows Wilderness Center. Wilderness quotas for all other trailheads have all been reserved. While some trailheads may have walk-up space due to cancellations, there are no permits specifically held for same-day permits. Plan accordingly.
🦌Throw away your trash, leave only footprints, and never feed or approach wildlife. During the day (not after dark), keep all food within reach or out of sight in your car with the windows rolled up and doors locked. Learn more about food storage and bears at go.nps.gov/bears.
