KEYNOTE SPEAKER TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION: In Columbia, South Carolina, I had the privilege of delivering the keynote address for the South Carolina Department of Education, Office of Health and Nutrition, during the 2026 State Agency Training.

But the real story was not the person standing at the podium.

It was the people sitting in the room.

These are the leaders and professionals who make sure children across South Carolina are nourished, cared for, respected, and ready to learn every single day.

My message was simple:

Every tray is a promise.

A promise that a child matters.

A promise that dignity belongs in every cafeteria.

A promise that service, leadership, and compassion can shape a stronger tomorrow.

I have had the honor of serving Presidents, military leaders, international guests, and some of the most demanding hospitality operations in the world. Yet the mission of feeding a child carries a dignity all its own.

Different tables. Equal dignity.

To the South Carolina school nutrition leaders who welcomed me so warmly, thank you. The energy in that room, the conversations afterward, and the extraordinary response to the program reminded me why this work matters so much.

Same students. Bigger tomorrows. 🍎

Have you ever wondered how soldiers communicated during the Revolutionary War? Join us for our next Lunch and Learn with living historian Bill Williamson, who portrays a SC Militia soldier tasked with writing correspondence for officers and letters for fellow soldiers who could not write for themselves. Bill will walk us through the tools, the process, and the surprisingly vital role that written communication played in 18th century life.

Admission: $5 for non-members / Free for SCHA members.

At the Chapman Cultural Center.
