If coming from the south:
Detour Route To reach Gualala today, you must navigate entirely inland around the fire zone.
This detour turns a 35-minute coastal drive into a 2.5 to 3-hour journey across rugged mountain roads:
Go South/Inland: From Fort Ross, take Highway 1 south toward Jenner, then cut inland via CA-116 East along the Russian River.Head North via Highway 101: Take US-101 North up through Santa Rosa and Cloverdale. (Note: Check local conditions before heading out, as the unrelated Feliz Fire near Hopland has caused brief highway disruptions further north).Cut Back to the Coast: From Cloverdale, take CA-128 West through the Anderson Valley toward Boonville, then take Mountain View Road or Philo-Greenwood Road to hit Highway 1 north of the closure.Approach from the North: Take Highway 1 South through Manchester and Point Arena down into Gualala.
