Pensacola International Airport remains closed to commercial operations following Hurricane Isaias. Recovery efforts are well underway, and our teams are working diligently to reopen the airport as soon as it is safe for passengers and aircraft.

HURRICANE ISAIAS UPDATE – October 9 | 11 AM

🌀 Isaias has been upgraded to a major hurricane according to US National Weather Service Mobile, Alabama. Now is the time to make last-minute preparations if you have not already. Impacts are expected to peak Friday afternoon and evening along the coast and into Saturday morning inland. Any remaining preparations should be completed as soon as possible this morning.

🚨 Evacuation orders remain in place for Zones A and B. This area includes Perdido Key, Innerarity Point, Pensacola Beach, and other low-lying areas. The evacuation order also includes anyone living in a mobile home or a low-lying area, regardless of your evacuation zone. Please take this notice seriously.

PENSACOLA BEACH ONLY: Mainland ECUA water and sewer services are NOT affected by this planned shutdown.

As Hurricane Isaias approaches the Gulf Coast and an evacuation order is issued for Pensacola Beach, the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority will temporarily shut down water and sewer services on Pensacola Beach beginning Friday, Oct. 9, at 3 p.m., once emergency personnel have evacuated the island.

Water and sewer services will remain operational while emergency crews are on Pensacola Beach. Once first responder emergency personnel have evacuated, ECUA will shut down the systems to help protect utility infrastructure and limit potential impacts during the storm.

The temporary shutdown will help ECUA:
• Limit uncontrolled water loss by preventing water from continuing to flow into storm-damaged pipes or building plumbing while crews cannot safely access the area to make repairs.
• Protect critical equipment by allowing vulnerable pumps and electrical equipment to be properly shut down and protected from potential flood damage.
• Reduce wastewater flows after sewer pumping is shut down by limiting the amount of wastewater generated from showers, faucets and other plumbing fixtures. This can help reduce the potential for sewer backups and overflows, although stormwater can still enter the sewer system during the storm.

ECUA will monitor conditions throughout the storm and begin restoring services when it is safe for crews to return to Pensacola Beach and assess the utility system.

Customers are encouraged to prepare for the temporary loss of water and sewer services and to follow all evacuation instructions issued by Escambia County Emergency Management officials.

Customers should also monitor trusted local media outlets and emergency management resources for storm-related updates, including Escambia County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service office in Mobile.

❓🚗"When will the bridges close?" is one of the most frequently asked questions ahead of a storm.

Since road and bridge closures are weather dependent, unfortunately we aren't able to predict with certainty when closures will happen.

Law enforcement will make the decision to close a bridge when conditions become unsafe, or when sustained winds (not gusts) reach 39 mph or higher. Keep in mind that just because one bridge is closed does not mean that all bridges are closed.

Good morning from your Pensacola Beach Lifeguards! The surf continues to build today with hurricane Isaias moving towards land. The storm has not arrived yet but a lot of wave energy is already present.

The Gulf is closed to all swimming and wading. Please expect this over the next few days as the storm moves through.

Please keep in mind that Lifeguard presence may be limited tomorrow through Saturday as Isaias makes landfall. The current is very strong and will only continue to intensify. Please stay out of the Gulf. Be safe through the storm, watch after your people, and have a nice day!
