Beginning September 25th in Florida, the Pensacola Seafood Festival kicks off with huge plates of Gulf seafood, live music, handmade art, and three busy days spread through downtown Pensacola. Food is the star of the weekend, with vendors serving shrimp, oysters, crab cakes, grouper, gumbo, seafood boils, jambalaya, lobster rolls, coconut shrimp, seafood skewers, paella, conch fritters, and plenty of sweet festival treats. Smaller tasting portions from local restaurants make it easy to try several dishes instead of settling on just one.

Away from the food booths, more than 150 artists and craftsmen fill the festival with pottery, paintings, photography, jewelry, woodwork, glass pieces, clothing, soaps, and other handmade finds. Live music plays throughout the weekend, while Bartram Park has a children’s area with games, crafts, and family activities.

The free festival takes place September 25–27, 2026, across Seville Square, Fountain Park, and Bartram Park in historic downtown Pensacola. Hours are 11 a.m.–11 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.–11 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Sunday. Downtown parking is first come, first served, and outside coolers and pets are not allowed, except for service animals.

On a bluff overlooking the entrance to Pensacola Bay sits a fort that reads like a timeline of three empires carved into brick and earth. 🏰 Fort Barrancas takes its name from the Spanish word for bluffs, and that high ground has been recognized as the key to the harbor for more than four centuries. Spain, Britain, and the United States all understood that whoever held this hill held Pensacola.

The layers of history here are remarkable. 🇪🇸 The Spanish first built defenses on this spot, including the lower water battery that still stands, and the British held it during their years in Florida. When the Americans took over, army engineers raised the beautiful brick fort you see today in the 1840s, connecting it to the older Spanish battery below with a covered way. Walk the grounds and you are literally moving through the work of three different nations stacked one atop another.

The craftsmanship is what stays with you. 🧱 The arched brick tunnels, the precise angles of the scarp walls, the vaulted rooms where sunlight slants through gun ports, all of it built with a care that has let it endure for nearly two centuries. Part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore today, Fort Barrancas lets you stand where Spanish soldiers, British redcoats, and American gunners each kept watch over the same shining bay.
