At 7 a.m., the Gulf Shores curfew will expire. Following a thorough assessment, public safety crews have determined that conditions on the roadways and bridges are safe for travel. The W.C. Holmes Bridge (Hwy. 59) and the Alabama 161 South Bridge (Alabama Beaches Parkway) will open to traffic at 7 a.m.

Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution while traveling, as crews may still be working in some areas and conditions can change. Any intersection with a flashing traffic signal should be treated as a four-way stop. Drivers should come to a complete stop, yield the right-of-way as appropriate, and proceed with caution.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as our community continues recovery efforts.

Unfortunately, the worst case scenario is unfolding with Isaias on the verge of becoming a major hurricane this morning. The NHC forecast now calls for Isaias to become an extremely dangerous Category 3 hurricane prior to landfall. You should be preparing for a Category higher. A major hurricane at landfall means this storm will rival Fredrick, Opal, Ivan, and Dennis. This is a life-threatening situation for those on the coast of Alabama & the Florida Panhandle. Please heed evacuation orders from officials if youโ€™re in the path of this storm.

In anticipation of the expected impacts from Tropical Storm Isaias, the cities of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are encouraging all nonโ€‘residents, and residents living in low-lying, flood prone areas to voluntarily evacuate. Current forecasts call for Isaias to be a significant hurricane when it reaches the coast bringing hazardous conditions including high winds, storm surge, flooding, and disruptions to essential services that could significantly impact access to public safety and critical utility systems.

City officials urge all individuals who are not permanent residents to leave the area immediately and relocate to a safer location. Departing now will help reduce congestion, support emergency operations, and ensure the safety of those who may be most vulnerable during the storm.

โ€œOur first responsibility is to safeguard lives and ensure that emergency services and utility crews can operate effectively as conditions worsen,โ€ said Mayor Robert Craft. โ€œWe strongly urge all visitors to take this seriously and move to safer accommodations without delay.โ€

โ€œWe haven't had a voluntary evacuation in a long time, so we don't take it lightly,โ€ Mayor Tony Kennon said. "Please help us by leaving the Islands so that we do what needs to be done.โ€

Each City will continue to monitor the stormโ€™s track and intensity and will provide additional public updates as conditions evolve. Residents and visitors are asked to follow official City communication channels for the latest information and instructions.
