The City of Gulf Shores is urging all residents and visitors to take immediate precautions as Hurricane Isaias approaches the Gulf Coast. According to the latest forecast, landfall is projected for Friday night into early Saturday morning, with tropical storm–force winds expected to arrive as early as Friday morning increasing throughout the afternoon. Dangerous conditions including life-threatening storm surge, high surf, heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and tornado potential are expected.

𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝘂𝘀
All roadways and bridges within the City of Gulf Shores remain open at this time. However, for public safety, the W.C. Holmes Bridge (Highway 59 Bridge) will close once conditions deteriorate and sustained winds reach 45 miles per hour. Based on current forecasts, the bridge may close as early as noon on Friday, October 9, and it will remain closed until the storm has passed and conditions are deemed safe for travel. The City will issue immediate notifications regarding any closures through its alert system, website, and official social media channels.

Sand is available for residents at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex, located at 19025 Oak Road West. Residents must bring their own sandbags and shovels.

𝗥𝗲-𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗺
If necessary, residents and business operators will be required to show a valid re-entry pass to access their designated areas once conditions are safe and re-entry operations begin. Those who were unable to secure a re‑entry pass will have the opportunity to obtain one after the storm has passed at the new Gulf Shores Justice Center, located at 312 Medical Village Boulevard.

𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲
All City of Gulf Shores offices and facilities will be closed on Friday, October 9, and will remain closed until further notice. Essential services—including Police, Fire Rescue, and Public Works—will continue to operate to ensure public safety.

Isaias causes cancellation of Shrimp Festival. Safety of visitors, vendors and volunteers top priority for organizers.

The 53rd Annual National Shrimp Festival has been cancelled. The cancellation is a direct result of Tropical Storm Isaias, which forecasters predict will develop into a Category 2 hurricane before making landfall along the northern gulf coast.

“I met early this morning with the City of Gulf Shores Emergency Management officials,” Coastal Alabama Business Chamber President Greg Alexander said. The Chamber is the presenter of the festival. “We made every attempt to conduct the festival this year, but due to the projection of high winds, heavy surf and rain over the weekend, it really left us no choice but to cancel this year’s event," Alexander said.

He also said that the swift changes in overnight predictors cemented the decision. “We said yesterday that we would wait until today’s forecasts and predictions were in to make a final decision. After the 4 a.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center, it left us no choice but to cancel the event,” Alexander said.

Baldwin County sent out a release this morning that outlined the key points with Isaias: • Isaias is likely to be a significant hurricane at landfall. Confidence is increasing for major impacts to coastal Alabama and northwest Florida.
• Earliest reasonable arrival of tropical storm force winds: Friday morning and afternoon, with the most likely onset Friday evening.
• Hurricane and Storm Surge Watches: Expected to be issued later today.
• Major concerns: High winds, high surf, rip currents, storm surge, flash flooding, and tornadoes. Heavy rainfall remains a concern, especially after last weekend’s flooding.

“We were really looking forward to a great weekend with shrimp, music, hundreds of vendors and thousands of visitors,” Shrimp Festival Chairman Rob Barnas said. “But with Isaias predicted to make landfall in our immediate area, the safety of each of these volunteers, visitors and vendors was our top priority.”

Further information will be posted as on the Festival’s Social Media pages and myshrimpfest.com.

10/7/26 UPDATE: 🚨 SHRIMP FESTIVAL CANCELLED

The Annual National Shrimp Festival has officially been cancelled this year due to the storm projected to impact the Gulf Shores area directly this weekend.

While this is very unfortunate, the decision is in the best interests of guests, vendors, and volunteers as safety remains the top priority.

🦐 SHRIMP FESTIVAL UPDATE: As of 10 PM Tuesday, October 6, the National Shrimp Festival is still scheduled to go ahead as planned.

You can drive past plenty of grocery stores between Foley and the beach, but there's another place to buy food that puts the people who grow and catch it much closer to the customer.

Coastal Alabama Farmers and Fishermens Market operates at 781 Farmers Market Lane in Foley, just off County Road 20 between Highway 59 and the Foley Beach Express.

And this isn't only a summertime market.

It's open year-round on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., rain or shine, inside a large covered facility.

The market's stated mission is centered on Baldwin County agriculture and Gulf Coast seafood. Its vendors include local farmers and fishermen, with offerings that can include fruits and vegetables, seafood, beef and other locally produced foods.

That's a combination that makes a lot of sense in this part of Alabama.

Baldwin County has a long agricultural tradition inland, while just a short drive south you'll find commercial fishing communities and working waterfronts connected to the Gulf.

Here, those two worlds meet.

The market is operated under the purview of the City of Foley, and its official website describes it as the largest farmers market in Baldwin County.

There's also something refreshing about shopping this way.

What is available can change with the growers, fishermen and seasons rather than every Saturday looking exactly the same.

For people who haven't ventured off the main Foley shopping corridors, Farmers Market Lane is worth knowing about.

It's a little slice of Coastal Alabama where the farms inland and the waters closer to the Gulf can end up under the same roof on Saturday morning.

Current hours, address and market mission verified through the market's official website.
