🦌 Wildlife Wednesday: White-Tailed Deer

A familiar face around Coles Point! White-tailed deer are one of the most commonly spotted animals around the property, but their coats actually give us a little clue about the changing seasons.

During the summer, white-tailed deer typically have a thinner, reddish-brown coat (As seen here) As the days get shorter and cooler weather approaches, they begin replacing it with a thicker, more grayish-brown winter coat that provides extra insulation.
Just one of the many species we’re lucky enough to share Coles Point with!

Did you know Coles Point Marina is a proud stop on Virginia's Oyster Trail?
One of our favorite things about being an Oyster Trail stop is that the oyster beds are right offshore. From the beach and docks, you're looking out over the very waters where Virginia oysters grow, giving you a front-row seat to the landscape that has supported Virginia's oyster heritage for generations.

📖 We put together a guide to help you plan the ultimate Virginia Oyster Trail road trip through the Northern Neck. Check it out on our website and start planning your next getaway!

🦀 Wildlife Wednesday

This week we're shining the spotlight on one of the Potomac River's most iconic residents. The Atlantic Blue Crab!

Blue crabs are known for their vibrant blue claws and olive-colored shells, and they play an important role in the Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River ecosystems. They're both predator and prey, helping keep the ecosystem balanced while supporting one of our region's most treasured fisheries.

Keep an eye beneath the docks on your next visit. You never know what you might spot!

Have you seen blue crabs around Coles Point before? 👇
