I just don't get tired of lava. There is something magical and mysterious about this redhot, yet not so hot really, stuff. I guess what I mean is how can it be so hot that the rock is molten, yet with a dry stick the width of my finger I have spooned out a chunk of the on-fire red stuff, and it barely sets the dry wood on fire. OK, it did catch fire, but it was slow. Weird.

There are lots of good roads and trails on the island for those of you who have already discovered the joys that biking can bring. Any chance that you are planning on going to volcano area today? Its fairly easy to pass a whole day up there so its worth considering. Or maybe get started early and take in a visit to where to flow is entering the ocean. Or maybe hit South Point instead. Today is good day for the trip as tonight there are two free movies tonight (If you can please donate the $5.00 fee), the first is "Reefs at Risk!" followed by "Aloha from Lavaland". The event starts at 7 pm tonight at the Volcano Art Center just past Volcano town. The drive takes just about an hour so you can make the trip back to the Oceanfront Legacy after the show fairly easy.

Do your plans take you to the north end of the island? Or perhaps you are just heading over to the Kona side. Pretty much mid-way is Waimea town which really has much to offer. Besides the delightful climate, roads head off to the north and south from here. North is for the scenic road to Havi and South goes to Parker Ranch on the side of Mauna Kea.

For those of us who have been parted from loved ones there is a beautiful ceremony held every year in front of the Fairmont Hotel on the Kohala Coast near Waikoloa. This video is from the North Hawaii Hospice (https://northhawaiihospice.org/) in Kamuela August 27th.
