HEADLINE: We’re Cataloging the Wild. We are publishing a book.
We are thrilled to officially announce our biggest project yet: The Legacy Field Guide to Susan’s Pleasant Pheasant Farm.
For years, we have hiked our trails and paddled our waters with friends, neighbors and visitors to our farm. Now, we are putting the secrets of our Wildlife Sanctuary into the palm of your hand. Coming Spring 2026, this guide features over 120 native species, detailed trail maps, and the “Hidden History” of our land.
Here is a sneak peek at a few of the neighbors you’ll meet inside:
🦆 The “Punk Rock” Duck:
Keep an eye on the lake for the Hooded Merganser. The males are easy to spot with their massive, fan-shaped white crests that they can raise and lower to impress the ladies.
❄️ The Magic Trick:
The Long-Tailed Weasel is a master of disguise. In summer, they are brown to blend in with the leaves, but in winter, they turn pure white (except for a black tail tip) to vanish into the snow!
🐸 The First Sign of Spring: You hear them before you see them! The Spring Peeper is only the size of a paperclip, yet a chorus of them sounds like thousands of sleigh bells ringing across our marsh.
❄️ The Zombie of the Forest: Meet the Wood Frog. In winter, this incredible creature freezes completely solid—heart stopped, brain off, rock hard—like a living ice cube! When the spring rains come, they thaw out from the inside out and hop away as if nothing happened.
Rease Date: Spring 2026. Stay tuned for pre-order details!
