There are many ways to explore Half Moon Bay from the water or the trail. Pillar Point Harbor is calm and protected — a nice spot for a kayak or paddleboard outing — and the Coastal Trail runs for miles in either direction if you'd rather take a bike. Our neighbors at Half Moon Bay Kayak Co. rent all three, right by the water's edge.

A weekend by the sea makes a thoughtful gift for Father's Day, and we still have a few rooms available. Balcony views, an afternoon at Pillar Point Harbor, and dinner next door at Sam's Chowder House. A short drive from the Beach House, you'll find some genuinely good independent shops — Jupiter & Main, an old-fashioned general store with a well-curated mix of clothing, home goods, and gifts, Olive Outdoor Living for coastal-inspired home and garden finds, and Coastside Books, a neighborhood bookstore with a carefully chosen selection. And that's just the beginning — there's plenty more to explore when you start wandering.

The Coastside Farmers Market is back every Saturday at Shoreline Station, just a short drive from the Beach House. Fresh produce, local goods, and that unhurried Half Moon Bay morning — it's one of the simple pleasures of staying on the coast. Market runs 9am–1pm at 225 Cabrillo Hwy N.
