📢 Audio on for a moment of calm from the shores of Alaska.

A little rain isn’t going to keep us off the water. Late summer in Alaska might bring a few more clouds and drizzly days, but there’s still plenty of exploring to do.

A paddle around the cove, calm water, mountain views, and nowhere else we need to be. With our season coming to a close, we’re soaking up these last few days on the water and appreciating the simple moments that make summer in Halibut Cove so special.

We’re definitely not ready to say goodbye just yet. 🛶

And just like that, we’ve reached our final week of the season. 🥹

For the last few months, these cabins, trails, docks, and gathering spaces have been filled with guests from around the world, countless Alaska adventures, shared meals, wildlife sightings, laughter, and a team that has become a little family of its own.

Next week, we’ll say goodbye to our final guests of the season. Soon after, we’ll begin saying goodbye to our incredible staff as we tuck the lodge in and prepare Halibut Cove for the colder months ahead.

But we’re not quite there yet.

We still have one more week of adventures to be had, meals to share, wildlife to spot, and memories to make. And we plan on soaking up every last bit of it. 🤍

You never quite know who you’ll meet out on Kachemak Bay. 🐋

Humpbacks, orcas, belugas, minke and fin whales have all been spotted in these waters, alongside sea otters, seals, sea lions and porpoises. Some encounters are fleeting, while others stop you in your tracks, like hearing the exhale of a humpback nearby or watching a pod of orcas move through the bay.

Late July and August are some of the best months for whale watching in Alaska, but humpbacks can be spotted around Kachemak Bay from late May through September. And with wildlife, there’s never an itinerary. A boat ride across the bay can quickly become an unexpected wildlife cruise when something surfaces nearby.

That’s part of what makes exploring Alaska from Stillpoint so special. The ocean is very much alive, and every day brings another chance to see what’s out there. 🌊

Crafted by local artisans from salvaged spruce trees, our guest cabins are peaceful, authentic, and irresistibly cozy. And when you step beyond your cabin door? You don’t have to go far to find your next adventure.

Soak in the hot tub. Warm up in the sauna. Wander through the garden or labyrinth. Paddle around the cove. Explore the tide pools. Take a cold plunge. Hike into the surrounding wilderness. Keep an eye out for seals, otters, eagles, and bears. Slow things down with a massage or yoga session. Get a workout in, or let the kids find an adventure of their own.

Some days at Stillpoint are made for big Alaska excursions. Others are best spent right here, enjoying everything that’s waiting just steps from your cabin. 🌿

Our days are intentionally flexible, leaving plenty of room to follow your energy, the weather, the wildlife, or whatever opportunity comes our way. And when Alaska presents us with something too good to pass up, our team takes charge and makes it happen. A last-minute floatplane adventure, an unexpected wildlife cruise, an afternoon paddle when the water is perfectly calm, or a spontaneous trip across the bay can quickly become the highlight of your stay.

Of course, flexibility also means slowing down when you want to. Linger over breakfast, spend the afternoon in the sauna, book a massage, wander the property, or simply relax and take in the view.

Some of the best moments in Alaska are the ones you could never plan for. At Stillpoint, we make sure there’s always room for them. 🌿

This will be a birthday he’ll always remember. 🥹🎈

Waking up in a cozy bed tucked away in a remote cove in Alaska, with birds chirping outside and waves gently lapping against the shore. A leisurely breakfast before heading out for a paddleboard adventure around the cove, getting an up-close look at the floatplanes he’d been fascinated by all week.

And just when the morning already felt pretty special, a few local residents decided to join the birthday celebrations. Otters popped up nearby, seals made an appearance, and a simple paddle around the cove became one of those completely unexpected Alaska moments you couldn’t have planned if you tried.

Not a bad way to spend a birthday in Halibut Cove. 💛

It’s almost aurora season in Alaska! ✨🌌

Typically running from August 21st through April 21st, aurora season brings a little extra magic to late summer in Alaska. Guests who visit us toward the end of our season may be lucky enough to catch the Northern Lights dancing across the evening sky, right here from Halibut Cove.

Just one more reason late summer at Stillpoint is something special. 💫
