This one was special for me to say the least…

11 years ago I met Susan and Bob as my dad was repairing their 1984 Westfalia. Susan was the biggest influence on 16 year old me when it came to westys and vanlife in general. Her stories of going to Germany in 1984 to buy their brand new Westfalia (which I now own) and driving it around Europe for 6 months before shipping it home - to the stories of their daughters first camping trip and many more - I was absolutely intrigued in this lifestyle and Susan and Bobs influence is really what kick started my obsession and dream which has led me here today.

Fast forward 9 years and Susan and Bob sold me their 1984 manual Westy and got this 1990 Westfalia which for them was a huge upgrade having power steering, a/c and an automatic transmission.

Two years later this last December we were working on their 1990 and found a string of issues that really only had two outcomes- sell the van/dream or go all the way.

Thanks to engine swap and many more add ons and upgrades their 1990 is ready for their list of dream trips.

Seeing their smiles as they drove their new and improved westy was heart warming.
It’s not every day when you meet someone who has driven a Vanagon for 40 YEARS! And to see the shock and awe of what their van is now was a huge treat.

Getting to revive their van has been one of my favorite van experiences to date. Knowing that two special people have the right machine to live out their remaining roadtrips and not have to worry about Vanagon water-boxer woes is something special.

Cheers to many roadtrips Susan and Bob! Can’t wait to see all the photos and hear more stories.

What’s the number one thing you dream of having done to your van?
My favorite part of my personal van (Marvin) was the addition of bumpers with a dual swing away set up- spare tire and spare fuel for the times we may need it and a custom bike rack to carry my wife and I’s enduro steeds.
