URGENT: Legislative Hearings Threaten New Hampshire Short-Term Rentals
On January 12 and 14, the New Hampshire House Ways and Means Committee will hold hearings on three short-term rental (STR) bills: HB1068, HB1580, and HB1707 that if passed will negatively impact guests and hosts by imposing additional taxes, fees and regulations.
What: NH House Ways and Means Committee hearings on HB1068, HB1580, and HB1707
When: Monday, January 12 at 11:00 am; Wednesday, January 14 at 10:30 am
Where: 1 Granite Place, Concord, NH 03301
Owners are encouraged to attend and share how home-sharing benefits you and your community. If you cannot attend in person, written testimony may be submitted online before or on the hearing date. There is no call-in option.
Email your State Legislator to advocate for protection of the right to own and rent your property. STRs already pay an 8.5% meals and rooms (lodging) tax, increasing what guests already pay. New taxes will also be passed on making NH a less desirable place for guests and owners.
Bills
HB1580 (Jan 12): Imposes a surcharge on non-primary residences valued over $500k.
HB1707 (Jan 12): Adds a 100% tax on properties unoccupied for at least six months per year, doubling property taxes by requiring payment to both the municipality and the state.
HB1068 (Jan 14): Changes the definition of “hotels” to include STRs, despite STRs already being subject to meals and rooms taxes.
Your input is critical to protecting property rights and preserving alternative lodging options for visitors to NH.
