We felt this was important enough to share. We received a message from a woman named Sarah yesterday. She had a wonderful experience with the lifeguards at the beach and wanted to thank them.

On Saturday, her 8 year old daughter suffered from a condition known as "Afterdrop," a condition that is common after swimming in cold water. You progressively go from feeling fine to shivering violently, feeling faint and unwell.

Sarah said, "the EMT and ambulance were so quick to help and had my daughter vitals up in no time. Thank you to all of them for assisting so quickly! It was a scary morning for sure but with their help, it eased the fright a little! We had no idea something like this could happen, and are very thankful for all the help today!"

The water temperature is currently 53 degrees. Please keep that in mind while you or your children are swimming. Our lifeguards are always here to help so if you are feeling sick or faint after swimming, please get to a lifeguard who can take care of you until you feel better. We would guess that, while common, "Afterdrop" may be something that you might never have experienced - or even heard of. We thought it was important to share what happened to Sarah's daughter in case it happens to you or your family member.
