Nature really is the best classroom.

This week, Illiniwek Forest Preserve welcomed 132 students for Eco Camp, a hands-on learning experience in conservation, prairie ecosystems, soil health, watersheds, wildlife and native habitats.

Students from Earl Hanson Elementary, Riverdale High School, West Carroll High School and Rock Island High School spent the week exploring, asking questions and getting a little muddy alongside educators and conservation professionals.

A big thank you to Living Lands and Waters for leading this incredible experience, with the help of the University of Illinois Extension, Moline Parks and Recreation Department and Rock Island County Soil and Water Conservation District for helping make these free workshops possible.

Exciting news!

The Rock Island County Forest Preserve District has secured an Illinois Bicycle Path Grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to make major improvements along the Great River Trail. That means smoother surfaces, safer rides and an even better experience for everyone who bikes, walks and runs along this scenic stretch.

Upgrades are coming to sections of the trail along Route 84, 171st Avenue North to 192nd Avenue North, and from 206th Avenue North to the Rock Island County/Whiteside County line.
