The Hannibal Convention and Visitors Bureau is proud to announce that Hannibal has been recognized by HGTV as Missouri’s most charming small town. This honor highlights Hannibal’s rich history, scenic beauty, and vibrant cultural experiences that make it a must-visit destination.
HGTV’s list of America’s most charming small towns celebrates communities that embody the essence of American life through their character, simplicity, and welcoming spirit. Hannibal stood out among Missouri’s hidden gems for its unique blend of history, attractions, and hospitality.
“Hannibal is a city that captures the heart of every visitor,” said Trisha O'Cheltree, Director of the Hannibal Convention and Visitors Bureau. “From its connection to Mark Twain to its stunning riverfront views and lively festivals, Hannibal offers an experience unlike any other. We are thrilled to see our community recognized on a national stage.”
Home to approximately 17,000 residents, Hannibal is best known as the boyhood home of Samuel Clemens, better known as Mark Twain. Visitors can explore attractions inspired by Twain’s life and works, including the Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum, Mark Twain Cave Complex, and Mark Twain Riverboat cruises along the Mississippi River. The city also hosts beloved annual events such as Tom Sawyer Days and the Big River Steampunk Festival, which draw thousands of visitors each year.
In addition to its literary heritage, Hannibal offers breathtaking views from Lover’s Leap, a charming historic downtown filled with 19th-century architecture, and a variety of local shops and restaurants that showcase the city’s unique character.
