A lot of guests ask about the John Brown trial location and courthouse...
This is the Jefferson County Jail, that use to stand in downtown Charles Town, WV.
While John Brown was awaiting the beginning of his trial, he was interviewed by politicians and reporters. Here is the exchange between Brown and a reporter of the Herald.
Reporter "I don't wish to annoy you; but if you have anything further you would like to say, I will report it."
Brown. "...I claim to be here in carrying out a measure I believe perfectly justifiable, and not to act the part of an incendiary or ruffian, but to aid those suffering great wrong. I wish to say, furthermore, that you had better--all you people at the South--prepare yourselves for a settlement of that question [slavery] that must come up for settlement sooner than you are prepared for it. The sooner you are prepared the better." ~Ranger Day (photo: NPS) Story: from "Incident at Harper's Ferry" by Edward Stone.
