🌪️ Hurricane Season Preparation 🌪️

As hurricane season approaches (June 1st- November 30th), we want to encourage all guests to begin preparing early — especially those living in campers or RVs full time. Severe weather can develop quickly, and having a plan in place ahead of time makes a huge difference.

A few important reminders from campground management:

• Keep propane, fuel, and generators ready
• Ensure your camper is properly secured and maintained
• Have flashlights, batteries, chargers, and emergency supplies available
• Keep important documents in a safe, waterproof location
• Know your evacuation route and have a plan for pets and family members
• Avoid waiting until the last minute to stock up on essentials or dump/fill tanks

We strongly encourage all guests to monitor weather updates closely and prepare accordingly throughout the season.

We will continue to communicate any campground-specific updates as needed in the event of severe weather.

Stay safe, stay prepared, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions.

What a day. 🌎🩵 Our community showed UP today and the difference we made on our beach was incredible. Piles of trash gone, cleaner sand, and a reminder that small groups of people really can make a huge impact. A giant THANK YOU to everyone who came out and lent a hand!

🌿 Burn Ban Update – Important Notice for Guests 🌿

Good news! Effective today at 8:00 AM, the burn ban has been lifted in 81 counties across North Carolina, including Hertford County.

With campfire season here, we know many of you will be excited to enjoy fires again during your stay at Cypress Cove.

However, we are still experiencing drought conditions in our area, so we ask that everyone continue to use extra caution and follow basic fire safety practices:

🔥 Keep fires contained to designated fire rings only
🔥 Never leave a fire unattended
🔥 Keep water nearby at all times
🔥 Fully extinguish all fires before leaving or going to bed

We appreciate everyone doing their part to keep our campground safe while still enjoying everything this season has to offer.

Thank you,
Cypress Cove Retreat

Hey Cypress Cove, it’s snake season—let’s talk about it.

The little guy in this picture is a harmless water snake. He’s no danger to people—unless you’re a fish or frog, he’s just passing through 😊

North Carolina is home to six venomous snakes. In our area, the ones you could come across include the Copperhead, Cottonmouth (also called a water moccasin), and the Timber Rattlesnake (also known as a canebrake). That said, sightings—especially outside of the water—are pretty rare here, and I personally have never come across a venomous snake on the property.

The Timber Rattlesnake is also a protected species in NC, which means it’s illegal to harm or disturb them.

Snakes are an important part of our ecosystem—they help control rodents and keep things balanced. Most snakes want nothing to do with people and will move along if left alone.

A few simple tips to stay safe:

* Watch where you step, especially near water, woodpiles, or tall grass
* Keep your campsite tidy to avoid attracting rodents
* Don’t try to handle or approach any snake
* Give them space and they’ll do the same

If you do see a snake and aren’t sure what it is, please feel free to reach out to our own Tayler Hice who can help identify. You can also snap a picture and post it to N.C. Snake Education & Discussion.

Happy Camping! 🐍🏕️
