The Harsens Island Bed and Breakfast was originally The Big Beaver Settlement House, one of the first Public Houses in Troy Michigan, built starting in 1831 by George Kilmer, located on what is now called Big Beaver Road. In 1849 it was improved to include a barn and additional accomodations, sporting such amenaties as lamp lighting and some heat. Around 150 years later -- as if transported throu

gh space and time to its' current location -- it now stands proudly on Harsen's Island, continuing its' tradition of accomodating the traveler, now with all the luxuries of the day! The entire home has been dismantled and rebuilt, now sporting 4 bathrooms, central air and kitchen and dining facilites only dreamed of in the past. Welcome and enjoy your stay!

THE HARSENS ISLAND BED AND BREAKFAST is live and well, although it is currently undergoing its' 7 year touch up to the facility. As many know, the B&B was built originally in 1831, is made of wood, and is in constant need of historic house touch up, which is ongoing into the end of July. We can still provide rooms as needed and the facilities are as wonderful as ever. Don't hesitate to call for information or reservations, but you might get the answering machine and a call back. You can also text your inquiries. For those of you who are not familiar with the facilities, I am pleased to inform that several upgrades have been made to the traditional B&B experience, mostly, a customer-use kitchen for longer stays, saving on the cost of constant dining out -- who could have guessed that a hamburger locally could cost $15? Now you can use the customer kitchen, fully equipped, to provide your own lunches, dinners and snacks at no extra charge! You only need to bring your own food supplies, everything else is provided, perfect for the multiple ay vacationers! Greetings happy New Year from the harsens Island bed at breakfast. After 26 years I'm starting to think about retirement. I wonder if there are any fellow retirees out there who might be interested in sharing home as a roommate. I would like to travel and I don't want to leave my house empty. I'm considering taking in a couple of roommates, retired seniors who wish to live on the island. ALMOST REOPENED: The Harsens Island Bed and Breakfast is days from being able to take reservations again.

More Privacy: When you make a reservation, the rest of the facility is "off the market" for that date. Whether one room or all three, only the people in your POD will be in the bed and Breakfast!

The facility has been retrofitted once more to allow the Valued Customer even more value for their hard-earned dollars.

i have added a Customer Kitchen for those who choose to cook their own food during their visit. The Kitchen is complete as is the laundry set. A $50 cleaning fee will be charged for those who wish to actually cook their own meals during their stay. I believe this is much safer than "going out" to any restaurant during the pandemic. Longer term stays -- bring your own groceries if you choose; everything else will be provided for you.. a complete new kitchen!

Of course, the traditional Bed and Breakfast Overnight Customers will continue to get the same Breakfast Service we have been known for for the last 26 years, except it will be presented through a "Dumbwaiter" which has just been installed....TRULY CONTACTLESS SERVICE.

Another new addition: Your own separate HVAC system. The air that You and your POD breathe will be all yours. It is a completely separate HVAC system than the staff quarters..,, We will both be safe from Covid with this arrangement. You have control of the temperature and airflow, The heating and air conditioning service are approximately "twice" the capacity needed to do the job. I caution you not to set the AC at a temperature setting that is lower than necessary... you will wake up frozen!

The Harsens island fed breakfast is currently being retrofitted to be the finest and safest bed and breakfast in all of America. Some of the new improvements include a customer service kitchen which is brand new for people who are staying a little longer and wish to do their own cooking. A new dumbwaiter for contactless free gourmet breakfast that we are well known for; I have even added a Maytag stacked set washer dryer for the convenience of the customer. A complete second ventilation system ensures fresh breathable air for you and your group who are visiting facility. You don't wish to wear a mask, that is up to you. There will be no requirement for masks because there will be no contact between staff and customers. My past 5 star -- the highest rating of a perfect bed and breakfast. Our natural fireplace where you can serve your Fine Food carryout dinner from your favorite restaurant ---enjoy it by the natural crackling fireplace.
