Today, Americans across our great nation gather with family and friends to celebrate the birth of the United States of America 250 years ago.

For two and a half centuries, generations of Americans have worked, sacrificed, and served to preserve the blessings of liberty entrusted to them.

As we enjoy fireworks, parades, cookouts, and time with loved ones, let us also take a moment to remember those whose courage and sacrifice made these celebrations possible. May we never take for granted the freedoms we enjoy or the responsibilities that come with them.
Regardless of where we come from or what viewpoints we hold, today we are united by a shared heritage and a shared hope for the future of our country.

From all of us at Nunn-Oden Lodge No. 398, we wish you and your family a safe, joyful, and meaningful Independence Day.

As we continue preserving the history of our Lodge, we occasionally uncover discoveries that connect our Fraternity to the rich history of our hometown. This week, we came across one we thought local historians and Hartselle residents would enjoy.

Most people know that the City of Hartselle was named for George Hartsell, the early settler who established his home here in 1834. While combing through one of our original membership ledgers, we discovered two brethren who shared that historic surname.

Our records show that Brothers George W. Hartsell and Edwin Hartsell both joined what was then Hartselle Lodge No. 398 on the same day: Saturday, June 18, 1898. It seems very likely they were connected to the same family that gave our city its name.

The ledger also offers a fascinating glimpse into Lodge life over 125 years ago. Annual dues were just $2.00 per year! Adjusting for inflation, that would be worth just over $80 today.

It was a fantastic time last night visiting Falkville Lodge's Annual Communication. Many thanks to the members of Falkville Lodge for allowing us to visit.

We were also able to bring home the Bud Hill District 5 Traveling Gavel for the first time!

It was a great day to be a Mason!
