Also, if you can, follow Brett Barley, he has such a wonderful grasp on how the weather and island intertwine, without all of the bluster that you get from the channel that shall not be named...he doesn't do weather for a living, but I would bank on his forecast insight far and above what we normally get from the mainstream media...and basically with what is being seen right now with the forecast, if you are coming to the island plan ahead and bring extra supplies/medications and plan to extend your stay, if you leave the island...pack toothpaste and spare un**es...

Don't look at the forecast...don't look at the forecast...Crap...we looked at the forecast...things could start kicking up wind wise late Saturday/early Sunday...weather bug is saying 25-35, weather channel is saying 20-30...and Windy is saying 35-40+...but what they all have in common is that there will be North in the wind...with that being said...NE would cause chaos in pea island and likely cause sound flooding in Hatteras Village, N would be nicer to Pea Island but still flood the village and NNW or NW will spare Pea Island but absolutely get your boots/waders wet in the village....we are crossing our fingers and watching it close as the storm continues to develop.

Huzzah the "road" back onto the island is officially open to visitors! I actually took the drive yesterday and it was fairly painless...although, the timers on the automated flaggers had held up for over an hour at one point with a glitch on the way off of the island, and on the way home they were sending cars into unknown games of chicken, again some glitch in the timers, but, we made it easily enough. So pack your patience on your adventure down and give the workers plenty of room to work.

The water has receded enough to get back to the marina so we are back to normal hours and the End of Season SALE is still happening!! Access to the island is currently only by emergency ferry from Stumpy Point to Rodanthe or Hatteras to Ocracoke to the mainland Reports of over 500 cars lining the roadside in tri-village to get off of the island…supply/food trucks started arriving last night.

Storm Log Day 4: Island supplies are running low without delivery trucks, but spirits are good. The road on Pea Island is in deplorable condition and will take several days to repair, no word yet on alternate routes of departure from the island as of yet. The roads are saturated and deep in low lying areas…this is PURE SALT WATER…DRIVE ACCORDINGLY…We remain closed, but are keeping a close eye on hopefully improving conditions as the storm continues to move away and tides continue to recede.

With the roads still inundated by saltwater we will remain closed until passage improves, Highway 12 on the North end of the island is in rough shape and will likely need major repairs after the storm moves off.

Unfortunately, due to a strong Nor’Easter, Highway 12 will be closed at Oregon Inlet until road repairs can be made. We at Village Marina will also remain closed until the flooding in Hatteras Village subsides to ensure the safety of our staff. Check back for updates. Live island road conditions can be found at drivenc.gov by turning on the camera option…hope to see you soon for the continuation of our end of summer sale when we reopen…
