We recently came across a damaged trash can with a large hole melted through the bottom, likely caused by hot coals or remnants from a beach pit fire being disposed of improperly.
Please never place hot materials in trash cans. This includes coals, ashes, partially burned wood, or any debris from a beach fire. Even when something looks cool on the surface, it can stay dangerously hot underneath for hours and can easily melt plastic containers or start a fire.
Be sure to fully extinguish your beach fire with water.
Remove all debris after the fire is completely out.
Clean the area of all trash before leaving the beach.
Protecting our beach isnโt just about keeping it clean. Itโs about keeping it safe for everyone. Improper disposal of hot materials can damage property, create hazards, and even lead to fires.
