Big thanks to the Goldman Sachs Community TeamWorks volunteers who rolled up their sleeves at CHOC this week to help replenish our beach! 🏖️💪

Recent storms washed away large amounts of sand from Breakneck Pond’s shoreline, and restoring it took serious teamwork. With their help, we moved, raked, and spread 25 tons of sand to bring the beach back to life.

This refreshed waterfront will serve the thousands of visitors who enjoy CHOC each year—creating a more comfortable, safe, and welcoming space for all, while also supporting the long-term health of the pond and surrounding ecosystem. 👏

Volunteer at AMC’s Corman Harriman Outdoor Center! 🌿
Become an “Information Volunteer” at Corman Harriman Outdoor Center or Reeves Meadow Visitor Center. Welcome visitors, give hiking trail advice, answer questions, and promote AMC’s mission. Volunteers also help outfit people with borrowed boots, packs, and poles, and they assist guests with canoes & kayaks.

Enjoy free meals and camping while volunteering! During your ample break time, you can hike, swim, paddle, or just relax. The time commitment is only 32 hours per year (after spring training is complete).

Last week, AMC welcomed interns from the Bronx Zoo's Project TRUE (Teens Researching Urban Ecology) to the Corman Harriman Outdoor Center! Our naturalist led an exciting day of exploration, starting with a water study at Breakneck Pond, where the interns searched for native invertebrates and tested the water's pH levels.

They also checked out some fascinating local animal skins and skulls, followed by an afternoon of hiking and paddling around beautiful Breakneck Pond. 🛶
We were thrilled to partner with our friends at the Bronx Zoo again this year!

Goldman Sachs Community TeamWorks volunteers had a fantastic day at AMC's Corman Harriman Outdoor Center! 🌸

They planted new flowers around the reception area, dining hall, beach, and central baths. This not only made these areas more welcoming but also provided essential habitats for native insects and animals, adding beautiful color and vegetation to the camp. 🌿🐝

Volunteers also cleared fallen branches and natural debris from the road, creating a clearer and safer driveway for vehicles and people entering and leaving the campsite. 🚗🌲

Last weekend, we hosted our final volunteer day of 2023 at the Baker Outdoor Center in Harriman State Park!
Activities this year included the cleaning out and cleaning up of the landscape and buildings throughout the camp, eradication of evasive species, and preparation for building renovations.
