How do birds instinctively know how to accomplish this incredible feat? They are devotedly shielding their babies. Through various weather conditions, including rain, thunderstorms, wind, fog, and blistering heat, these eggs remained vulnerable yet survived. We are grateful for everyone's interest in updates and were excited to share the news. We are still keeping site #16 closed until these sweet babies leave the nest.

A camper approached us, stating that there was a bird's nest at the site. I expressed skepticism, pointing out the absence of trees. However, she insisted that we take a look. Upon arrival, Paul and I did not see any birds or nests. The camper then asked us to examine the area more closely and pointed out four spotted eggs near the hook up post. We were surprised to learn that these eggs were laid by a killdeer bird. The camper explained that she had seen an injured bird while eating breakfast and looking out the window. After the bird flew away, she investigated and found the eggs. To protect the nest, Paul and I blocked off the site with cones, making site #16 off-limits for 28 days. Although we are unsure when the eggs were laid, we are committed to monitoring the situation and providing updates. I am constantly amazed by the innate abilities of birds, including their capacity to feed, protect, and teach their young. We appreciate the camper's compassion and love for wildlife, as well as the commitment of our campers to protecting these amazing creatures. We look forward to witnessing the hatching of these eggs. When another camper reported an injured bird, we realized that this was the mother bird's way of protecting her nest. We shared the story with the camper, and it is clear that this mother bird has many babysitters looking out for her and her young. I am heartened by the compassion and love for wildlife displayed by our campers and their commitment to giving a voice to these incredible creatures.
