While we try to stick to mostly getting your family out camping and making memories and stay out of political things as a business, this morning we were greatly troubled by a situation and decided to do something about it. During this frustrating virus situation many small businesses have been faced with incredibly difficult decisions about how to operate, how to keep themselves and their customers safe, and how to stand by their individual principles and beliefs, while dealing with health department changes and the public court of opinion. While we don't take a stance for or against certain mandates as a company, we do take a strong stance in support of the right of a business to choose how to operate.
Yesterday an article was published on a statewide news platform that named a small business that was not allowing people to bring masks into their restaurant because of the risk of spreading bacteria by wearing a mask for a few feet, taking it off to eat and leaving it out on the table (or in a purse or back pocket) and then putting it on again. Regardless of your personal feelings about their approach, we believe that a business has a right to make these choices and to operate at their discretion, patrons that disagree are free to go elsewhere. Because of the news article this business is now being slammed with 1 star reviews, threats, and harassment to the owners, from people that haven't even been to this restaurant. We stand by business owners rights and choose to show our support and help take the edge off this negative impact. It is unfair for a business to be threatened and harassed by people that are on the other side of the state because of a news article. They wouldn't have enough known this business existed were it not for the news. On behalf of Get Out Recreation we have left a $250 credit at this business and have called the local police department to offer their officers and families to go in and use it or pass it on to who they see fit.
We are praying for all small businesses to stay healthy, stand strong, be you, and survive this seemingly never-ending battle. We pray for our community and citizens in this state to learn to open their minds to a variety of perspectives and approaches for how to best navigate this time and ask for everyone to spread more love and mercy and put an end to the bitter, angry, divisiveness. Our support is not about which side of the mask we are on...it's about HUMANS. Love your fellow man. God bless to everyone!
