🌾 A Quick Note on Conservation, CRP, and What to Expect at The River's Edge 🌾
Living in rural Nebraska, it’s easy to forget that things we see every day aren't common knowledge for everyone, especially for guests visiting us from out of state!
With my husband’s career as a conservation officer, so much of our daily lives revolves around protecting Nebraska's land and wildlife. When we created the cabin, our main goal was to conserve the land and share that natural peace with our guests.
We recently received our first less-than-5-star review (AND that’s okay!) and we always want to hear you, take your feedback to heart, and use it to make things better. It realized us that we need to do a better job explaining what CRP actually is and what it means for your stay!
What is CRP?
CRP stands for the Conservation Reserve Program. It’s a federal program where landowners dedicate property to growing native grasses and plants to prevent soil erosion, improve water quality, and provide vital habitat for local wildlife like deer, pheasants, and native birds.
Why don't we mow?
Because the land is actively enrolled in CRP, federal regulations strictly prohibit us from mowing these protected native grasses. That tall grass isn't overgrown neglect, it’s intentional habitat protection! While the grasses are short in early summer, they reach 4 to 6 feet tall by late summer.
What does this mean for your stay?
•Walking the property: You are always welcome to roam and explore the land on foot to enjoy nature, but please keep in mind it is a natural, unmowed prairie environment.
•Parking & Driving: We ask all guests to keep vehicles on the rocked/graveled areas to protect both your vehicle and the conservation ground.
•The Vibe: It’s quiet, private, and wild (and yes! true country glamping!)
We love this piece of land and want to make sure every guest knows exactly what to expect when they book a stay with us, as we aren’t the Ritz Carlton. 🤍
Thank you to everyone who has stayed with us, left feedback, and helped us grow. We appreciate you all!Deer camp, campfire nights, and wide open skies are waiting for you!
