🦅 National Geographic names Audubon State Park among America’s best

John James Audubon State Park has earned national recognition, landing on National Geographic’s list of its 50 favorite state parks, with one park selected from each state.

In its January feature, National Geographic highlighted Audubon State Park for preserving the woodlands and wetlands once explored by famed naturalist John James Audubon, where he encountered many of the bird species he would later paint. 🌿

🖼️ The article also spotlights the Audubon Museum, home to the world’s largest collection of Audubon art and artifacts, including a complete set of The Birds of America — a landmark work featuring 435 life-size, hand-colored bird prints. Fewer than 125 original copies of the book are known to exist today.

Henderson Tourist Commission Director Abby Dixon said the recognition confirms what locals already know 🗣

National Geographic also noted that state parks often offer the same natural beauty, history, and recreation as national parks, while being more accessible and less crowded.
