Village View Suites - Our Story
When coming to Hermann for a quick getaway in our quaint German town, guests will find Village View Suites to be a completely remodeled, farm-style, brick cottage with all the amenities - but it wasn’t always this way.
Built circa 1860, the brick home was abandoned in the early 2000’s due to a kitchen fire that damaged most of the structure. Beginning in 2015, the cottage underwent extensive cleanup and reconstruction including setting brand new trusses to accommodate a second floor and recreating the walls that were once there. The brick walls that remained in the house were covered with wallpaper and plaster and most were still in perfect condition even after the fire.
Knowing the cottage would ultimately be used as a guest house, we set to work in hopes of sticking with the authentic style and charm of the old home while adding updated amenities for guests to enjoy. Many of the elements in the house, such as the trim, doors & furniture pieces, are up-cycled and reused from their former place of existence. The cabinetry in the kitchen was all constructed by a local artisan and the bathroom vanities and kitchen island were made by “Junk Love Boutique”, a local shopping boutique in Hermann. We reused as many elements from the house as possible; including the fireplace mantle, which was a beam used in the original structure. Also made from lumber salvaged from the home are the shelves in the kitchen, the top of the island and the desk & nightstands in the “Loft Suite”.
Today you can rent the cottage as a whole house rental - sleeping 6, or as private suites for individual couples. The house is fully equipped with a full kitchen, two guest suites, each with a large on suite bath, a living room which has a queen sleeper sofa, electric fireplace and a spiral staircase, a full laundry room and most all of the essentials you may need or have forgotten to bring with you. Outside you will find several seating areas, as well as, a large fire pit area that seats 6 and all the ingredients you need to make smore’s and enjoy the company of your fellow travelers.
Village View Suites is a short walk to everything downtown and the perfect place to stay for anyone who loves old homes, farmhouse style and wine country.
