The National Park Service (NPS) is pleased to announce the availability of the Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Fire and Vegetation Management Plan/Environmental Assessment (plan/EA) for New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, Gauley River National Recreation Area, and Bluestone National Scenic River. The FONSI, signed by the regional director on December 20, 2024, describes the final decision of the NPS and authorizes the implementation of the preferred alternative. The new plan was needed to update fire management activities in the three parks to comply with federal fire policies, achieve ecosystem restoration goals, and protect natural and cultural resources, the public, employees, and park facilities.
