Well, this isn't cabin related, but I thought you might find it interesting.

I remember / did the following:

- Coke bottle returns
- Closed on Sundays
- Watching cigarette ads or seeing them everywhere
- The smell of polaroids from Pop-Pop house
- Riding in the bed of trucks
- Rotary phones & party lines
"Yes, I called the bowling alley and asked them if they had five pound balls"
- Truck fog sprayers, although I never rode my bike through it

Roller Coaster Yard Sale Returns to Pickett County October 1–3

Get ready to hunt for bargains, hidden treasures and plenty of things you didn't know you needed! The annual Roller Coaster Yard Sale returns October 1–3, 2026, with vendors setting up throughout Pickett County.

Shoppers will find yard sales and vendors along Highway 111 and throughout downtown Byrdstown, with everything from antiques and collectibles to household items, clothing, crafts and one-of-a-kind finds.

The Roller Coaster Yard Sale brings bargain hunters through communities across the region each fall, and Pickett County is a great place to make a day of it.

"Part of the fun is that you never know what you're going to find," said Pickett County Tourism Coordinator Megan Mertsock. "We hope folks will come out, shop the sales, grab something to eat and spend some time exploring Byrdstown and Pickett County while they're here."

Come ready to shop, take your time and enjoy the hunt October 1–3!
