For those that do not know, the special use permit for Forest Recreation Management (FRM) with the Black Hills National Forest expires on December 31, 2025. We have enjoyed working with the Forest over the past 26 years and have been blessed with providing recreational experiences for countless campers, picnickers, kayakers, hikers, swimmers, and others that have visited the beautiful Black Hills. We have managed the campgrounds, day-use areas, picnic sites, swim beaches, and boat launches for over two decades, likely hosting generations of families. And working with the Forest, we have replaced toilets, repaired facilities, added kayak launches, updated campgrounds, replaced picnic tables, and enhanced numerous areas. Our goal has always been to impress the public by maintaining Forest facilities to the best of our ability. Nonetheless, our time has come to an end, and we graciously step away from the permit process in 2026.

Since FRM is no longer managing sites next year, the half-price sale for our seasonal passes will not take place in early December … like past years. We suspect the new concessionaire will also have a seasonal pass, but we believe this will not be made available until a selection has been made by the Forest. We appreciate your business in this regard. Over the years, we have sold tens of thousands of seasonal passes, especially to our local enthusiasts. We hope your love for the Forest continues, and we wish the new concessionaire nothing but success into the future. As for right now, we simply wanted to alert everyone about the lack of annual passes in early December, and we hope you can help us spread the word to your family and friends.

Once again, thank you for your business and support over the years. We will miss hosting your weekend get-aways and your family vacations. Until next time, best wishes with your outdoor adventures, and remember to and .

Labor Day signals the unofficial end of the summer season, which means that Forest Recreation Management (FRM) will be departing some campgrounds on Monday, September 8. However, FRM will still be operating an extended season at the following locations through September 28: Sheridan Lake South Campground, Bismark Lake, Horsethief Lake, Oreville, and Iron Creek and Willow Creek Horse Camps. If you are looking for some late-season camping, our team would love to host you through the month. Please be advised that some sites may close earlier than planned, due to inclement weather conditions, freezing temperatures, or limited shoulder-season staff.

And if you are looking for even more options, the Black Hills National Forest will be taking over management of several sites on September 8. These locations will have limited services, with no water available. The reduced rate for these sites is $15 per night, with discounts provided to those with America the Beautiful Passes – Senior Pass or Access Pass. For more information, please refer to the off-season camping flyer.

Thank you for a great year, and we hope to see your family again!

Forest Recreation Management (FRM) is teaming up with the Black Hills National Forest on the redesign of Sundance Horse Camp in the Bearlodge Ranger District. The campground is located just outside Sundance, Wyoming. Construction activity is slated to start on Monday, July 28 and continue through late August. Because of this, the campground will be closed to campers, due to heavy machinery and materials being staged throughout the camping sites. Reservations are not available through recreation.gov, nor will there be any first come first serve sites available during the construction process. We apologize for the inconvenience; however, we believe the planned improvements will complement visitor expectations and make for improved experiences.

The planned project includes the lengthening of some sites in order to accommodate larger trailers, as well as transforming some sites into pull-through options for longer units. Corrals will be moved closer to several sites, and new picnic tables and fire grills will be added to each site. Additional signage will also be included for easier guidance, and landscaping will take place to enhance the overall visual appeal of the campground. A local contractor has been selected to perform the work using Granger Thye (GT) Funds, which are collected directly from camping fees across the Forest at FRM-managed sites. Guidance and recommendations were shared by multiple campers over the years, and the Forest worked with South Dakota Back Country Horsemen to complement local users’ expectations.

NOTE: The nearby parking area for Sundance Trail will continue to be open and available for interested hikers and horseback riders.

We're here to help you dream up your next trip, figure out the details, and reserve experiences at over 3,600 facilities and 103,000 individual sites across the country.

Beginning July 8, 2024, access to Hanna Campground and the Stageyard OHV Trails on the Black Hills National Forest will be from the North Rochford Road. Lawrence County will be replacing a bridge at the intersection of Mossy Pine Loop and Hanna Road, which will prevent access from the west side of Highway 85. The project is anticipated to last 1 week.
