🍂 Exploring the Beauty in Our Own Backyard! 🍁

After more than 30 years of calling Loudoun County home, Ray and I are still discovering beautiful places right in our own backyard!

Today, we took the pups to Beaverdam Reservoir Park in Ashburn, and what a wonderful discovery it was!

Beautiful walking trails along the water, paddleboarders, kayakers, fishing, picnic pavilions, and trees just beginning to show their autumn colors.

But our favorite moment? Finding a large rock along the shoreline, sitting together, and simply listening to the water splash against the rocks and the wind rustle through the trees.

No schedules. No distractions. Just nature, fresh air, and a little peace. ❤️

It reminded us that sometimes the most memorable experiences aren't the grand adventures, but the simple moments that allow us to slow down and appreciate what's around us.

We've decided to make exploring more of Loudoun's hidden gems a regular adventure—and we can't wait to share our discoveries with our Hidden View guests!

From peaceful waterfront trails and historic villages to scenic overlooks, w**eries, and charming little places off the beaten path, there's so much to experience here.

After all, one of the joys of staying at Hidden View is discovering Loudoun like a local!

WalletHub ranked Leesburg, Virginia, the #13 best small city in America in its 2026 report.

That’s out of 1,318 communities nationwide.

The study compared 45 measures across affordability, economic health, education and health, quality of life, and safety. Leesburg’s strongest category was education and health, coming in at #24 nationally.

But a ranking only tells part of the story.

There’s the afternoon that starts with coffee downtown and turns into browsing local shops. Dinner on King Street. A bike ride along the W&OD Trail. Live music at the Tally Ho. And those historic streets that give Leesburg a personality all its own. 📍

For me, that’s the appeal: there’s a whole town to enjoy beyond your front door.

After 30+ years of living in Loudoun County, Ray and I are still finding new places to explore — and that’s one of the things we love about calling Loudoun home. ❤️

Today, while our guests were at a local wedding, we spent some time exploring Northern Loudoun and discovered three places we’re happy to now know about.

🍺🍷 White’s Ferry Brewery & W**ery — a fun and relaxed spot with both craft b**r and w**e, and a wonderful setting for enjoying an afternoon in Loudoun.

🍷 Domaine Fortier Vineyards — a beautiful vineyard with welcoming hospitality and w**es we really enjoyed. Such a lovely discovery!

🐈 The Cat Tavern in Lovettsville — full of local character and a great place to relax, grab a bite and finish our afternoon.

Days like this are one of the reasons we love owning Hidden View Bed & Breakfast. We’re always exploring Loudoun ourselves so we can help our guests discover both longtime favorites and places they might otherwise miss.

Even after 30+ years, there’s still something new to discover.

Stay Loudoun. Stay Somewhere Special. Stay Hidden View Bed and Breakfast!!

Virginia might be one of the most geographically underrated — but absolutely beautiful — states in America. 🦅🍂

Because somehow this one state managed to pack sandy beaches, tidal rivers, rolling foothills, massive cavern systems, dense forests, and high mountain peaks all into one place.

And somehow… it all works.

Virginia stretches from the Atlantic Ocean in the east to the Appalachian Mountains in the west, and the landscape changes dramatically as you travel across the state.

The Coastal Plain (Tidewater) feels open and historic: flat, sandy terrain, pristine salt marshes, barrier islands, bustling coastal hubs like Virginia Beach, and historic colonial waterways. 🌊🏖️

Then you move into the Piedmont and suddenly it’s: rolling green hills, sprawling horse farms, rich agricultural valleys, quiet backroads, vineyards, and the bustling Northern Virginia area fading into peaceful rural land. 🍇🚜

The Blue Ridge Mountains? Completely different again.

The crown jewel of the state. 🏔️
Dense forests. 🌲
Misty blue horizons.
Waterfalls and rushing streams.
Curving mountain roads like Skyline Drive.
And some of the most spectacular scenery anywhere in the eastern United States.

Then there’s the Valley and Ridge region, where the majestic Shenandoah Valley lies bounded by parallel mountain ridges, featuring massive limestone caverns, historic small farming towns, and deep mountain valleys.

And southwestern Virginia brings you into the wild Appalachian Plateau, with rugged, steep ravines and winding mountain passes that truly embrace the heart of Appalachia. ⛰️

Meanwhile, Virginia also has massive lakes and rivers — including the James, Potomac, and Rappahannock Rivers, and Smith Mountain Lake — giving the state everything from high-energy water sports to isolated mountain fishing holes. 🛶🎣

The geography here is so diverse that in a single day you can:
