Sea Turtle Season first nest on Hilton Head Island.

Did anyone else hear that? Did you hear the cheers of joy from today's patrol? 🥳 Nest number one on Hilton Head appeared this morning!! This will be a great summer of finding , protecting and caring for all the nests on HHI. Sea Turtle patrol is your tireless volunteer group who has permit # MTP566 from SCDNR to perform this job! Stay tuned for more nests to come!

Sea Turtles nest at night anywhere from 10 pm ish to 6 am ish. We don't know where or when any nesting sea turtle will come up to nest. It's a matter of luck to see one on a beach walk! Nesting occurs until about mid-August.

Be kind to nature, it is the beginning of sea turtle season.

Today is the beginning of sea turtle season which means:

- Lights off after 10pm on beachfront properties
- No flashlights on the beach unless they have a red filter
- Pick up litter if you see it
- Fill in holes in the sand and knock down sand castles at the end of the day
