🐢EXCITING TURTLE NEWS🐢

We are so excited to share that our dedicated nest hatched earlier this month. The eggs hatched after 54 days of incubation. There were 112 eggs in our nest and 107 loggerhead turtles emerged and made their way to ocean. We are so grateful to have supported Sea Turtle Patrol Hilton Head Island and look forward to continued support in the future. Thank you Sea Turtle Patrol for all you do!!!

🏖️ Islanders Beach Park Closing Sept. 8 for Major Improvements

Islanders Beach Park, located at 92 Folly Field Road, will close to the public from September 8, 2026, through May 31, 2027, to allow the second phase of site improvements to move forward.

During the closure, visitors are encouraged to use other nearby beach parks and public beach access points, including Folly Field Beach Park, Driessen Beach Park and Burke's Beach access.

The closure will allow construction crews to complete planned improvements and enhance the park for future visitors. Pathways, parking areas, and recreational amenities throughout the park will be upgraded. Initial work will include tree care to prepare the site for the following improvements:

- Safer and More Accessible Pathways: Construction of a new pathway along the park's southern boundary, beginning at Folly Field Road, will improve pedestrian safety and complement the central pathway completed during Phase One in 2024.

- Additional paths to the boardwalk entrance, upgraded lighting, landscaping, and new plantings will enhance accessibility and walkability while completing the park's updated design.

- Eco-Friendly Parking Upgrades: A new permeable paver parking system will provide 213 vehicle spaces and 24 golf cart spaces. Of these, 187 spaces will be designated for residents, while the remaining 26 — located nearest to Folly Field Road — will be available for paid public parking. Currently, the park provides 133 resident spaces and 25 paid public spaces. Stormwater system improvements will improve drainage and water quality and reduce erosion. The redesigned drive aisle layout will improve traffic flow and visitor safety.

- New Playground: The beach-themed, accessible playground will feature engaging STEM elements, including interactive play panels, Braille and sign language panels, non-verbal visual imagery, and musical components, ensuring inclusive and multisensory play for all children.

Additional Amenities: New bicycle racks, seating and picnic areas will provide more opportunities for visitors to relax and enjoy the park.

The $5.1 million project is part of the Town's Capital Improvements Program and is funded with accommodations tax dollars designated for beach enhancements. The project also advances the Town's Fiscal Years 2026–2028 Strategic Action Plan goal of enhancing parks and recreational amenities for residents and visitors.

Construction fencing, signage, and security measures will be in place for the duration of the project. The public is advised to use caution near active work zones and follow all posted signage.
