Join Akwesasne Mohawk artist Angello Johnson for an introductory basket-making class for new and experienced basket makers.

All attendees will be provided a hands-on demonstration for preparing black ash materials and a cultural background on basket making. All participants will be provided with splints, forms, and handles to complete a black ash berry basket by the end of the class.

Join us for Log Pounding Thursdays this May!

In partnership with the Akwesasne Task Force on the Environment and the Akwesasne Cultural Center, the SRMT Environment Division's Land Resources Program invites you to our community log pounding events, happening every Thursday in May (7th, 14th, 21st & 28th) from 9AM to 4PM at the Akwesasne Cultural Center.

Watch, learn, or jump in as we turn black ash logs into splints for basketmaking, a tradition rooted in culture and community. All ages and skill levels are welcome!

KEEPERS OF THE FIRE
Join the Akwesasne Child & Family Services Traditional Support Team for a meaningful weekend of connection, culture, and creation.

This gathering brings together male youth (12+) and adult male role models to learn, share, and grow through traditional teachings, mentorship, and pack basket making. It is an opportunity to spend time together, build skills, and strengthen bonds across generations.

Each pair will create one pack basket.
Date: April 11 & 12, 2026
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Location: Akwesasne Housing Authority
Lunch will be provided.
