Update and Improvements heading into the 2026 season.
Over this past offseason our main concentration was the problem with the upstairs deck doors. They opened to the inside and this would allow the wind to slightly bend the doors at the top and bottom and allow water seepage. We replaced all of them and they now open out. There should be no more issues with water getting in. We also fixed the water damage to the floor and downstairs ceiling.
Our second priority was to allow pets. We added a rolling gate at the top of the deck that may allow pets to enjoy the deck. However, check that your dog(s) can’t slip through the railing/stiles. We simply added something we hope will help but can’t guarantee it’s foolproof. We also added a gate at the bottom of the deck stairs / boardwalk. However, there isn’t one at the end of the boardwalk yet, so this may seem pointless. Hopefully we can get one there so dogs could go onto the boardwalk. Please remember to clean up after your pet. As long as we don’t have any issues with mess or damage from pets, we will continue to allow them as per Proactive’s policy.
We also did some additional painting inside and out, as well as repairing some of the boardwalk boards that were beginning to rot. As always, my wife added a few decorative touches. She also replaced the older pillows. Most of the pillows are now new. We try to have a variety of different types but you may have to check around in the bedrooms as they tend to move around throughout the season.
Unfortunately, we suffered some broken pipes from the second hard freeze to the exterior plumbing, even though the water had been turned off. That has been repaired and the outside showers and faucets are working again.
We want to thank those that left reviews. We read over them and take them seriously. If there are recommendations that we can implement, we usually do. If you read over the reviews, the ones I felt needed addressing, I did so and replied directly to them through Proactive. It means a lot to us to see all the 5 star reviews! I will take a minute to address the few that were only 4 stars:
• Weather: I’m sorry that the weather was not good for you. I honestly don’t feel we should be docked a star for something that was out of our control. The house has lots of games and puzzles for you to use when the weather is bad along with a plethora of TVs and wifi. If I could control the weather, everyone would enjoy sunny warm days.
• Parking: We added more parking last year. I feel that there is a good balance between green space and parking. There should be room for at least 8 vehicles. I understand that you may have to do some leap frog with cars when people want to go out. If we removed the green space and added more parking, we’d loose the grill. Grills must be at least 10 feet from any structure and can’t be on the deck or dunes. From my perspective, if that is the worst thing about your stay, you’ve had a fantastic stay. Feel free to DM me if you’d like to discus it further.
• Soft bed: I’m sorry you were not able to find a bed soft enough for you. We have different mattresses/toppers on different beds to appeal to as many people as possible. Unlike pillows, we can’t keep extras lying around. I wish I could appeal to everyone, but it’s just not feasible with mattresses.
