Hi!
Our website has been updated with new photos taken after our repairs from Helene. Many thanks to Kim Coffman and Sandra Filer for the hard work in taking the photos, and to our genius web designer Christina Arasmo for implementing the updates!

Hi -

Our patios are back! Woo hoo! So happy to see them-- we had lunch at the one in front of the cottage today. Still working on the buildings.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year too!
Hoping 2025 brings all good things to everyone.

Hi -

I'm attaching some photos from the beach, taken today. It's beautiful and warm and very different from pre-Helene.

The meadow is now sandy, but I'm seeing little plants peeking through and am hoping the flowers will come back. We will be replacing our patios in the coming weeks as the pavers are either buried or washed away.

The sea oats and a lot of our sea grapes on the sand dune were washed away/buried, but I'm seeing some tiny green shoots and am hoping that they will come back. There is now a very great view of the beach from the cottage porch, and from some apartment windows.

Surprisingly, the night heron nests in the pines made it. Look closely in the first photo. Somebody tell me how they made it through two hurricanes!

Hi!

We are making steady progress on repairs and hope to have more info late this week regarding our exact reopening date. We are so thankful for all the love, support, and offers of help from our loyal guests.

Stay tuned!

Hello, Folks-

Sorry for the long delay in posting. We've been busy! The giant sand piles have been moved around and off our land, but we are still waiting for them to be moved off of 38th Street and 2nd Avenue by the City? County? FEMA? Ditto for the tree and leaf debris piles, and the pile of soggy household goods and the appliances.

The insurance adjuster finally came for the Cottage and for Apartments 3 & 4, and I'm told it will be a few weeks before they get back to me with additional information and advance checks.

In the meantime, we are working on repairs to get back to normal.

Our flowered meadow and our landscaping are now sandboxes, but I'm hoping some of it will come back after I can get the irrigation system running and flush the salt out of the soil. Pablo is coming tomorrow to give me advice.

A dear friend told me about the landscaping-- first year sleep, second year creep, third year leap.

I saw a rainbow yesterday, which gives me hope!

Hi-

We continue to pick up the pieces from Helene. Milton, fortunately, did not do any damage other than a LOT of downed limbs which didn't hit our buildings. Amazingly enough, the limb over the meadow holding the night heron nests (and the nests) is still there.

Actually, the whole thing is amazing. I was prepared to go see everything obliterated, but it looks like post-Helene with more yard debris.

WastePro came today to empty our regular trashcans -- love those guys. Some of our trash cans have floated away to parts unknown. I was told they found the 38th St. beach access cans over by Publix.

The courtyard has been shoveled, raked, and swept so it looks better. I tried to rake the front parking lot, but there is still debris and a storage container and a city sand pile on it.

I found a fish on my front walk this morning. Go figure.

The wait for the insurance adjuster continues.

Hi Everyone -

Steve, Happy the dog and I have evacuated from Tampa (and of course the island) and are in Georgia at our son and daughter in law's farm. We are all safe.

I have no idea what the next 24-48 hours will bring, but it won't be good.

I've cancelled and fully refunded reservations all the way to the beginning of January so far, and will continue to cancel and refund moving forward as we know more.

It would take a miracle for us to survive this one. Prior to Milton, the city was already moving sand onto the beach.

Hi -

With Hurricane Milton bearing down on us, we have paused repair efforts to our buildings on the island, secured them as best as possible to prevent further damage and have heeded the mandatory evacuation direction (you don't have to tell me twice).

I will be initiating further reservation cancellations and full refunds as soon as I can. I've already cancelled October & November, and will cancel December & probably January depending on what the storm does, and if we are able to complete repairs by late December. I'll know more after Hurricane Milton passes; please forgive me if you reach out and I don't answer promptly.

If you are a VRBO or Booking.com guest, I have to take extra steps to cancel your reservation and refund your money, and it takes more time; I have to call in, wait on hold, and talk to a representative. Both of those third-party booking sites are set up to ensure that the guest is protected from accommodations just randomly cancelling reservations and getting away without a penalty. VRBO requested photos to prove our damage before they would allow me to cancel under their Extenuating Circumstances policy.

Right now, we are bracing for Hurricane Milton here at our home in Tampa, and they are predicting power outages, storm surge, etc. We are preparing to hunker down, as there are no hotel rooms between here and Atlanta. I need to continue storm prep here in advance of this latest beast.

Take care, everybody. I truly love each of my guests and will continue to take care of you with full refunds as soon as I am able. It's a promise.

Hi Everybody -

I've been struggling to keep up with everything as we absorb the full impact of the storm, and navigate the insurance claims so we can repair-- apologies for not answering all of your loving emails.

Hurricane Helene was a monster as you can see by the amazing graphic Liv created (thanks, Liv!!) and left us with a lot of sand-- 100 dump trucks worth based on a back-of-napkin calculation.

We did have some water damage and I'm working with insurance and contractors to getting things fixed, but it will take a fair amount of time, how much I am not sure yet. We were far more fortunate than a lot of other folks.

I watched the water come in at the start of Hurricane Helene's storm surge by looking at our security cameras. It was first a trickle across the meadow, and I thought it was rain, then a wild boiling current-- so fast, like a fire hydrant-- smack into Apartment 2. It was horrifying and mesmerizing and I was thankful that I didn't decide to "ride it out" at the Bamboo.

Sending all my thanks for the kindness, prayers, and positive energy from each of you!

Our hearts are heavy today as we reflect upon the damage sustained from Hurricane Helene on Anna Maria Island—we are all in shock from witnessing the power of Mother Nature. As a result, we are temporarily closed until further notice as we work on repairs.

While the road ahead is uncertain, we are incredibly fortunate to belong to such a resilient community, and we are working tirelessly to restore Bamboo Apartments as your gulf-front home away from home.

Our guests with upcoming reservations are our highest priority, and if you are one of them, I’ll contact you soon with additional information.

With the help of our community, family and the support of our beloved guests, we will recover! Thank you for your patience if I’ve been slow to answer and for all of your kind emails throughout the past days- I'm working on it, honest.

If you have any questions and/or need assistance, feel free to contact me at 813-230-4577 or [email protected], and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

Hi Everybody -
Here is a picture of the beach today. The weather is pretty warm. The police are patroling the beach access to make sure no one parks to go to the beach, but our guests are able to sit on the sand and go swimming, no problem. I hope and pray it continues-- the beach is a place of peace and healing, and we really need that right now!
Take care of yourselves!
