Feed still goes out in September. It goes out in every month that ends in a letter.

Protein by the tote, cottonseed on the lines, and a route that gets run whether anybody is hunting or not. The bucks you see on this page in November were fed through the worst of August, and the ones you will see in three years are eating right now as fawns.

Most of a deer program is a feed bill and a schedule. The part with a r***e in it is short.

The fire ring under the oaks is where every day on this place ends.

Supper is done. Somebody is retelling the morning for the third time and it has gotten better each time. The first cool night of the fall is still a few weeks off, but the fire gets lit anyway.

October onward is the best of it. Bring a jacket.
