Small choices across Hawaiʻi’s hotels can add up to a meaningful impact.

Hawaii Hotel Alliance member Plantation Hale Suites on Kauaʻi has incorporated sustainability into its daily operations, including an active recycling program with dedicated collection areas for guests and and elimination of single-use plastics on property.

This year’s theme, “Ke Kahu o Ka Mālamalama: Guardians of the Light,” brings Hawaiʻi’s visitor industry together to share ideas, strengthen connections and look ahead to the future of tourism across our islands.

For Hawaii Hotel Alliance member The Westin Maui Resort & Spa Resort and Spa Kāʻanapali, caring for Maui extends well beyond the resort.

Following the 2023 Lahaina wildfires, the Westin Maui supported displaced residents and relief and recovery teams, providing shelter and tens of thousands of room nights while establishing donation hubs and programs to support affected associates and the West Maui community.

That commitment continues through quarterly beach cleanups and the Maui County Charity Walk. In 2025, Westin Maui Hotel Manager Selawe Tau served as co-chair of the walk, which raised a record $1.75 million for 76 Maui nonprofit organizations. The resort also hosted the gathering where those funds were distributed back into the community.

Environmental stewardship is part of the work as well, with the resort incorporating energy and water conservation, responsible waste management and environmentally responsible purchasing into its operations.
