Laughing Heart Lodge in Hot Springs, NC, opened in August of 2012 after extensive renovation. It is a wonderful facility for retreats, family gatherings, weddings, and events as well as being available to individual guests as a bed and breakfast. The lodge is a great place for relaxing, a romantic getaway, and to enjoy the beauty of our surrounding sacred mountains in our small, quaint mountain to

wn. Our vision includes hosting a variety of retreats in addition to providing peaceful lodging to travelers. We are excited about our endeavors. The lodge was built in 1892 and, for over 50 years, was a Jesuit Retreat Center. Today, Laughing Heart Lodge offers accommodations in its 7 lovingly renovated rooms (all with private baths) with exceptional mountain views or lovely forest views. At the edge of our 8 acres, Laughing Heart Hostel (located at the trailhead of the Appalachian Trail) includes very affordable lodging for hikers and other visitors to Hot Springs. Next to the Hostel is our cabin with a loft bedroom, available to individual guests August through February. Adjacent to the Lodge is the chapel which is a great space for retreat sessions, yoga, group meetings, receptions, mountain weddings, family reunions, and other functions.

It is that time of the year again...Carol's Yoga Retreat is coming up!

Back to Nature Yoga Retreat
Finding Your Inner Warrior
November 3 - 5, 2017
Come join Carol Barry* at the peaceful Laughing Heart Lodge in
beautiful Hot Springs, NC, for a weekend of adventure and
discovery. Shrouded by nature in her cloak of many colors, the chill
in the air, the gathering of the harvest, gives us reason to pause
and take stock of ourselves. "What brings me happiness and gives
me peace of mind?" "What brings comfort to my soul?" "Have I
lost touch with myself?" As the earth and its creatures prepare for this season of
dormancy, perhaps you will pick up this natural rhythm of the earth and use this time for
contemplation and renewal.
On the path to discovery we will seek to find our "inner warrior" first through our asana practice.
The beauty of the asana is that it uses the physical body as an entry point for addressing
emotional, mental and spiritual health. Our yoga practice will find us integrating more
meditation into our mind and body flow. Research is proving that a combination of yoga and
meditation is a powerful tool in combatting the effects of everyday stress and anxiety, while
increasing happiness and overall quality of life. By surrounding ourselves with Nature we will be
given the opportunity to "reconstruct" our spirituality. As Galileo wrote "We conclude that God is
first known first through Nature, and then again, more particularly, in doctrine; by Nature in his
works, and by doctrine in his revealed word."
The weekend will have a balance of meditation, yoga practice, group meals, and free time.
Experience the AT Saturday afternoon with an easy to moderate hike along a scenic ridge,
culminating with a soak in the hot springs if you wish, or perhaps you prefer browsing around
the small town; it holds many treasures. Learn more. www.hotspringsnc.org
The price of the Retreat is $200, which includes all meals. The cost of the room is additional.
Keep in mind that some of the rooms can be shared if you wish. Check the website to view the
rooms and costs (www.laughingheartlodge.com). To book the Retreat and the room you need to

Upcoming Retreat at Laughing Heart Lodge

Mountains, Movement, and Meditation
February 24-26, 2017
The New Year has come and gone, Super Bowl LI is past, and you’re left with the mid winter blues! Where do I go from here? You head to Hot Springs, NC, for a new beginning! Come join Carol Barry* and Karen Moore* at the Laughing Heart Lodge for a weekend of adventure, and embark on an inner journey of rediscovering yourself.
Against the backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the French Broad River, and the Appalachian Trail, this inspiring and restorative setting provides you with the opportunity to commune with nature while furthering the experience of connecting with your Self.
Rediscover yourself through a slow gentle yoga practice with Carol. Let your body go with the flow of your "inner river," your breath being your guide throughout the journey.
We will be integrating pranayama, restorative poses, yin yoga, and meditation into our practice giving you the opportunity experience and explore the peace and joy of being.
Beginners will be comfortable in this adaptive class.
“Silence is God’s first Language. All else is but poor translation.” (Thomas Keating)
Karen will guide you in both silent meditation, as well as group discussion of God’s work in our world. “Where do I fit into his scheme of things?” you may ask yourself. "How do I come to terms with myself?" Karen has years of experience in mentoring people along the spiritual pathways of life. Perhaps her wisdom will offer some insight into yours.
She will be available for individual guidance if you so desire. Saturday afternoon will offer an opportunity for self-care and life maintenance in the town voted “Best Small Mountain Town” by Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazine (www.hotspringsnc.org). It will be a time to soak in hot tubs of natural mineral water, enjoy a massage, hike the Appalachian Trail, journal, read a book, or simply take a nap.
The cost of the Retreat is $200 per person which includes the services of the retreat leaders and all meal (home cooked and healthy) Accommodations at the Lodge range from $15 per night (hostel bunk bed) to $150 per night (the largest room in the lodge) with many options in between. (www.laughingheartlodge.com). For more information or to book contact the Laughing Heart Lodge at 828-622-0165, or call Karen at 704-608-3211. Carol can be reached at 704-560-6259.

This is a collection of songs that were inspired by the how, why and where my heart has been moved by this journey. Joy, sorrow... Music is the way I let my heart make sense of it all.

We have a hike scheduled for Saturday afternoon. The Betty 's Place Trail is a scenic 1 mile
loop, which has now been a extended (if you wish) into a 3.5 mile loop known as the Bluff
Mountain Loop Trail. And of course, the hot springs are always available, as is Glenda
Dolbeare's "to die for" massage. A Retreat wouldn't be complete without "tea time at the Lodge"
better known as "happy hour."
The price of the Retreat is $185, which includes all meals. The cost of the room is additional.
Keep in mind that some of the rooms can be shared if you wish. Check the website to view the

**One additional option is available for those who want to come a day early and hike on the AT.
Arrangements can be made with John Merlin, a local hiker, to take you on an extended hike
Friday. The hike would begin at Camp Creek Bald Friday morning and proceed as determined
by the group. The cost per person for the hike is $10 payable to John.
