Did you know that the Grand Promenade in Hot Springs National Park is listed as a National Recreation Trail? Work began on the trail in the 1930s and was completed in 1958. This is an early photo of people enjoying the walk.

The red, brick path that crosses the hillside between Central Avenue and the upper slopes of Hot Springs Mountain is the Grand Promenade.

Actress Joey Lauren Adams and author David Hill will be the main speakers on Tuesday, August 11 for Hot Springs' 150th Birthday Gala at the Hot Springs Convention Center, presented by Oaklawn! 💙

The celebration marks the formal incorporation of the city in 1876 and will include a cocktail reception and formal banquet held in Horner Hall. Funds generated by the gala will be given to the Garland County Historical Society.

Cocktail attire is suggested for the event, which will begin with a reception from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dinner will be served starting at 7 p.m.

Hot Springs’ Stardust Big Band will perform throughout the evening with Neal Gladner being the master of ceremonies. Hot Springs Poet Laureate Kai Coggin will deliver the invocation and Oaklawn General Manager Wayne Smith, who also is chair of the Hot Springs Advertising and Promotion Commission, will make opening remarks. Elizabeth Robbins, executive director of Garland County Historical Society, will speak also.

Chuck Dodson will perform a selection from his popular YouTube series, History Lives, on stage. There will be a special presentation by the student author of an essay about “My Future for Hot Springs."
